OK, of the people I know who have committed suicide: one shot himself in the head; one took pills, then got into the bathtub and slit her wrists; and one put a plastic bag over his head and taped it around his neck with duct tape. I don't see much difference between the results, only the methods. They're all dead.

So, no, I don't see the distinction. If, say, Chris Reeve had said, "take out the feeding tube and turn off the ventilator", that would have been suicide, no?

Do you at least acknowledge a distinction between active suicide - blowing your brains out - and passive suicide - removing high technology life support.

There are other choices.

Some, shall we say, soft or painless and non-disfiguring methods to end one's own life.
