10:12 SUNW Sun Microsystems downgraded to Above Average at Caris (4.09 +0.06)

Caris downgrades SUNW to Above Average from Buy. Firm believes that business results have been mixed in the March qtr and that SUNW's concentrated reliance on a handful of vertical industry segments has forced the co to weather the ups-anddowns of its customers' ability to make strategic purchasing decisions. Firm is also particularly concerned about Sun's Federal Systems business, and notes that unfortunately, SUNW does not have many significant new products at hand to offset these weakening tendencies. Firm lowers rev and EPS ests for Q3, Q4, FY05, and FY06.

I think its rather arrogant of you guys to consider that sun micro, which hasn't made a dime since the bubble burst, will be a survivor selling computers to corporations. Its the height of arrogance I might add, which stands to reason as this is sun micro we are discussing. Sun Micro is on a precipice. Right now, JS and SM have balaned things correctly so that the whole car isnt' going to fall off the cliff but its a delicate act. Let's wait before wrting the HP epitaph in computers and sun micro's emergence as one last standing. HP can buy and sell sun micro at this point. sun micro is a blip on the landscape and easy prey for money MAKING companies who will go in and say don't BET your company on a corporation that hasn't made a dime in five years with NO PLAN to. Yes, this borad and the media on both sides of the Atlantic may not realize it yet, but sun micro is a goner as a pofitable enterprise. I expect the last gasp for the stock will come at the over hyped AMD box release party. That is if the NAZ feels like cooperating in providing the kiddies a playpen for a while longer. If it doesn't then even that circa 1999 hype attempt won't give SUNW a pop.

I don't think NCR's attempts to replace Unix with Windows were pleasant for them.

JMHO.
