What if the police officer really hated the crook and saw the opportunity for a "clean shoot"? (rhetorical)

But in Christ's terms, well, that's another story. I mean, one really can't live true to Christ's teachings in the real world, and how can God's teachings be subjective?

That's the point. Drawing the line between right and wrong is kind of a useless exercise, because God draws the line where no one can ever reach. That's why it's all about forgiveness. It's the only anyone can truly be reconciled to God. Then from there, forgiving others (i.e. fellow man) just comes naturally.
