It is important to be a good defensive driver, but there is also random chaos afoot on the road. I know the chances of this are small, but I always feel really sorry for the drivers who are crushed by trees toppling in storms and boulders crashing down cliffs and just smash, crush, it's all over. Big trucks are another problem. Cars do not usually fare well in crashes with them, and the drivers are often tired and perhaps on drugs, not a good combination with that pesky blind spot!

I do not spend my life worrying about these possibilities, however. You are correct that the things we fear are not nearly as dangerous to us as things like heart disease, which fells 50% of Americans.
