Powerchip Semiconductor Corporation (PSC) and Renesas Technology are considering extending their partnership to handset-use NAND flash production, according to industry sources.

PSC has been providing foundry services for AG-AND flash for Renesas since April 2004. Currently, PSC produces flash for memory cards, but the two companies are now considering extending production to flash products for handset applications, the sources indicated.

PSC chose not to comment on the rumors, citing customer confidentiality.

PSC is striving to improve its yields of AG-AND flash while increasing its wafer starts, which currently total 1,000-2,000 12-inch wafers per month.
