Hi Bruno,

Higher capacity chips being made by sandisk/toshiba of course..

MLC was a good hedge for Sandisk against manufacturing supremacy of Samsung and availability of plentiful resources and flexibility between different production lines manufacturing different types of semiconductor chips. Samsung was a process leader and Toshiba/Sandisk had MLC expertise which helped them compete with Samsung. If Samsung gets MLC "right", Sandisk gets higher royalty and better access to Samsung's o/p but the question is will that be enough??

Samsung has completely destroyed most of the DRAM manufacturers and with the amount of manufacturing capacity they have across various semiconductors, they can do the same thing in Nand business. For the time being, Toshiba/Sandisk has a State-of-the-Art Fab coming online and they can compete with Samsung but down the road (give 4-5 years) things could look a little different. The good thing is Sandisk is widening its moat with U3, micro-SD, etc.
