Steve Jobs doesn't need the money either. There are many other examples of successful people who are driven to create no matter how rich they get. I think Bechtolsheim has enough integrity so that if he weren't serious, he wouldn't be there.

As for 18-hour days, maybe an older, more experienced entrepreneur can work smarter instead of harder. And I suspect the troops realize they're lucky to be working with him.

Plenty of players around there may come up short, but IMHO he's not one of them.

But at this point there's nothing to do but wait and see.

It is not about the money, it is about ego. By creating the next masterpiece, the one that saves the company, Andy will be demonstrating to the world that he is the best server designer out there. He is the master, he is king, he is God in his realm.

No different than an artist or a rock star.
