>>> Is it jai-alai that's siphoning off the crowds from world class tennis? <<<

If given a choice, jai-alai would be my choice. It's been years since I've been to a jai-alai match but it sure was fun even though I lost money.

I get the impression that the Williams sisters aren't that popular with most tennis fans.

Something about style or behaviour.

Note that Tiger Woods draws monster crowds from pretty much the same demographic.

KB,

No, didn't See NASDAQ tennis. Family business took me to Tahoe for the past 5 days and we don't hook up the Direct TV until we move up full time ~ May.

Serena Williams vs Venus Williams

I have to admit that these sister matches do not turn me on. I'm not sure exactly why. Four years ago I was present in Palm Desert when Venus defaulted (For no apparent reason) her semi-finals match with Serena 3 minutes before the match was scheduled to start. I was among those who booed Serena in the finals and neither sister has been back to PD since.

Yes, Serena and Venus even today are at the top of the womens game; only 5 or 6 women can really challenge either. But I guess it boils down to not caring which sister wins when they play each other. Maybe many other people feel the same way and this accounts for why the stadium was half full. I do enjoy watching the Williams sisters play OTHER players in a competitive match.

TAYLOR DENT

He IMO opinion is one of the more exciting players to watch: maybe the only serve and volley player left in the mens game. I can't account for why his match was sparsely attended. Was it early in the day? Often the box seat holders (that's who you see on TV cameras immediately around the court) don't start straggling in until 11:00 -11:30 AM even for big drawing stars. Remember, most of these box seat holders buy a package that includes every day and every night match over 10 -11 days. 10:00AM until 6:PM in the hot sun and then having to come back for the night matches that start at 7PM and last maybe to midnight is a lot like work!!

It happens that sometimes there are more people in the upper parts of the stadium than in the lower box seat sections. These are the people that come just for the day or for one particular match.
