The toughest righwinger of all was J. Edgar Hoover, along with Roy Cohn. They were ten times as tough and sadistic as Karl Rove or Anne Coulter. Both of them total closet drag queens who persecuted gays and railed against pornography, marijuana, leftists and free speech.

My view on gays is that about 15% of people are gay whether they accept it or not. Maybe another 15% are half and half, whether they act on it or not. In the old days they didn't even consciouslessly realize it. Many maried family men and women had gay feelings but denied them. Also, being gay was illegal, remember.

In politics, the PR biz, retailing and show biz, about 35% are gay. Many gays in politics are liberal and fairly open about it, but there are a surprising amount of conservative gays. And not just in the open Log Cabin Club. In the cvloset instead. Even some pro athletes, macho soldiers and cops are gay. It's just part of human life. Even some animals are gay. I have a neighbor who's male dog is only interested in other male dogs. Simply cannot get him interested in females. gg

Also, there is a strong anti-gay fear in most people. I feel it in me. I'm not really afraid of gays but I do avoid them. Although some of them are very nice people, usually very funny and interesting to listen to. I know I'm not gay, but I keep my distance just the same. Maybe because as a kid I got hit on and it made me uncomfortable. And who hit on me? Two married guys with wives and kids.

Gay marriage was an effective but phony issue for Bush even though Kerry wasn't for it and half Bush's staffers and pundits may be gay. But gay marriage is no real threat to anyone, more of an imaginary subconscious threat. Like "what if I'm gay?" or "What if my son marries a man?" Terrifying thoughts. So better to keep them out of sight, out of mind.

As for lesbians, I once went to a lesbian party. Some beautiful chicks there too. I hit on one and she was really hostile and insulting. A real man-hater. But gorgeous. Sort of an Anne Coulter type, you see. Notice how Coulter is always calling men "wimps"? She's an emasculator. So she's probably gay or bi. But when she was on Bill Maher she was disarmed, defanged and hardly said anything. She knew she couldn't pull that with Bill, whom I heard she may have had an affair with. But Bill is into bimbos so they didn't last.
