Bradley, and others who are proposing this approach by the Dems, are working on the premise that "if we build it, the ideas will come." They might as well try. I know that a lot of the "Silicon Millionares" who support "moveon" etc, are in favor of this approach.

Yes, he does argue that and that's one of the places I disagree with his argument. The Dems don't lack for ideas; the tradition is very much alive with them. They lack a structure which can articulate them in a politically viable way.

And they are going to have to take the very long road back of slow building, the parallel of Goldwater to the present for the Reps; or some crisis offers an opening. The large one on the horizon at the moment is the confluence of the debt, the trade deficit, and foreign, particularly, Asian, ownership of Treasuries. You may be aware Stephen Roach writes some fascinating stuff on that. I doubt it is permissible to post it publicly. But it's worth a careful read.
