I wouldn't expect Michael to put his life on hold for 15 years. And I don't think that he is actually "married" to his new partner...perhaps they can get married now...or maybe they found a way to get married, even though Teri was still alive.

He did have Power of Attorney...none the less. He didn't come to the decision lightly. He was told by 18 doctors that Teri was brain dead. And he knew that Teri would not want to go on like that. He tried everything he could. Teri was not going to be living any kind of a normal life. She had severe brain damage. It has to be a huge emotional and financial burden to carry for the family.

But even with all that, the mom and dad still had hope. What is more important here? Teri's wishes, or the parents hope?

And if you're Michael, you're stuck in the middle. And you even have Congress breathing down your neck. If I were in his shoes...I probably would have signed the POA over to the parents...so long as they accepted all the financial responsibility that goes along with their hope for Terri too.

In the end, what should have been a private family matter was shoved into the political spotlight and made much hay over. Imagine that the republicans will try to use the death of Teri for some political gain...makes me want to throw up.
