Containment of china's imperialist tendencies is after all beneficial most to an economically integrated and politically plualist china. South Asia provides a democratic alternative to china right now and a buffer to chinese ambitions in the region. Shoring up the island states surrounding china also does this. With Taiwan, Japan, Indonesia, Phillipines and Malaysia strong and free, China prospers more not less and is not diverted from true interest by old dreams of asian domination by force whether military, political or thru the manipulation of ethnic chinese living in other parts of asia.
