"I think had the U.S. remained a Slave holding state that they would have come into conflict with European nations, probably Great Britain and had the slaves freed by the terms of the war." (US civil war or WW1??)

Maybe, but my two-party point was about the civil rights
in the 1960-70s.

PS However, intersting "what-if", if the US civil war would not
have ended US institutional slavery (first in the south,
somewhat later on in the north).

PPPS As the Vietnam war started the path to US ivil rights,
maybe the "the war" might have been the Vietnam War (just seriously joking..

Btw, note that the Great Britain also has a funny two-party
system, although EU has promised to handle them. (and that
GB lost some of their economic strength inbetween WW1, WW2 and
the 1960-70s, their colonies going somwhat, politically
independent).

Btw,btw, now as GB has no direct colonies anymore there is
actually no reason they should stick to their two-party
system anymore, check their history in th 1980s and their
lib. dems
