One aspect of this "sex offender" notification I haven't seen discussed in many places is what kind of people are labeled sex offenders.

I was thinking of bringing up this point, too. There's been talk of putting tracking devices on all convicted sex offenders. But I don't think society has anything to fear from some guy who, as a teenager, had a girlfriend who was too young. I don't know how many of the registered sex offenders are of the teenage-hormone types vs what we commonly think of a child molesters. Both are required to be registered. It makes no sense to me to have young romeos wear ankle bracelets the rest of their lives, or even to be on the registry.

Sorry

Nothing to be "sorry" about. The outlawing of consensual sex by teenage girls is an outrage in this country. The Euros are much more realistic on this matter. One of the 30 year old dancers I knew in LA was teaching with a 16 year old who was his girlfriend. It was open, and everybody knew it. She married a guy her age a couple of years later, turned him in, and he got prison time.

This is one area where "if they are big enough, they are old enough," should hold. Especially if they are going to brand you for life as a "sex offender."

Michael, I agree with what you say except I think the tenor of your comment about a gun is not apropriate. I think a rusty knife is far more in line with justice.
