The "reason" that France did not support an invasion was that their intelligence said no such thing.

You are so thoroughly Hannitized...it's a wonder you can think at all.

The French had the best human intelligence in Iraq. They did not claim ever that Saddam had no WMD. Nor could they confirm the presence of WMD, same as every other western intelligence agency. There simply was no way to to confirm WMD in the positive or the negative. Saddam needed the west to think he had no WMD, and he needed Iran to think that he had lots of WMD. No wonder there was conflicting evidence.

Their government was being very reasonable in saying let the inspectors do their work.

At that time, the reason given for the war was WMD. That was before Bush proclaimed to bring democracy to every corner of the world.
