Why don't you think there are similarities? Both accidents...both brain damage...both rehab, one more than the other...

Yeah, each involves brain damage.

One difference is that one is in a coma and one is "awake." A coma is a state where the brain withdraws and tries to restores itself. Sometimes it is successful and people wake up restored or partially restored. Terri's system was awake, not trying to fix itself.

The other difference is that Ryan's damage was caused by trauma. The parts of the brain that didn't get smacked would still work and the parts damaged could perhaps be healed or worked round. Terri's brain wasn't bruised, it shorted out and liquified. It's the difference between your computer being dropped and being hit by lightning. If it's dropped, you might have broken the CD drive or shaken loose some wires. You can fix that. Lightning, OTOH, fries the whole thing.

Ryan had multiple injuries, was on life support, and at risk of dying as opposed to Terri whose life wasn't at risk.

I saw Pat Boone interviewed last week. The interviewer kept trying to conflate Ryan's and Terri's conditions but Pat was clear about what was wrong with Ryan. I've googled transcripts of a dozen interviews and Pat said nothing about Ryan being vegetative. I don't know if JDN was listening with one ear (that's what I usually do with my TV) or if Pat got caught up in the heat of the day, but I don't think their situations are comparable beyond both having tragic and grave brain damage and family who did everything to try to bring them back.
