The problem is that we American's like to insulate ourselves from the Worlds grim realities and often only see what we want to see. They are certainly one of, if not "the" greatest culture in the history of civilization. I have great admiration and fondness for Chinese History, their Culture and the people. It's the oldline Communist Chinese Leadership that presents the threat to Taiwan, Japan, America and the free world. It's their willingness to arm Iran, North Korea and other rogue nations with modern missle & nuclear weapon technology that is problematic. The problem does not lie with the Chinese people... it lies with the oldline Chinese Leadership. They've escalated aggression of late towards Taiwan & Japan....and your comment below fast forwards to reality: "projecting China's economic metrics and natural resource use forward 25 years are mind-blowing in their implications--too radical for them to come to pass in the world as currently organized. Fasten your seatbelt" ...."too radical for them to come to pass in the world as the world is presently organized"... is correctamundo ~ China knows that it will face a social upheaval very, very soon if it can not keep it's economic and social plans on track & on schedule....and it has now arrived at a sobering fact.......... it can not. The essence of this is simple: China's massive rate of the acquisition and consumption of raw materials is unsustainable economically and geopolitically...and lies against a rapidly unfolding internal social and cultural upheaval that is a direct threat to their leadership control. China knows and understands this. America knows and understands this. Taiwan & Japan know and understand this...as does the rest of the world. As I stated earlier, China and America both Geopolitically and Economically; are on a collision course at warp speed and Oil is right at the center. And you are correct in your conclusion - that the World as it is now structured ...can not exist in 25 years given the economic dynamics of China's growth. It may not be able to exist as it is structured in 5 years. History has shown us time and time again what lies ahead... The "only" question is whether this battle will ultimately be fought traditionally, or via the Chinese PLA's own new "Unrestricted Warfare" methodology of Currency's, Commodity's and Financial Markets being used to fight modern War's. We have reached a point to where US Foreign Policy and Economic Policy have reached a critical crossroads vis a vie Oil and China... It simply amazes me that so many here have an Alice in Wonderland view of China. My view is no different than that of the Asian Times article you noted.... it is based in reality; nothing more, nothing less. Investors had better get up to speed on China's social & cultural, political, economic and geopolitical realities and how this is going to effect not just the Price of Oil....but quote/unquote: ...how the World is now structured.
