Actually, the US would just have to be able to survive longer than a potential adversary.

And the US doesn't need to have oil - just deny it to a potential adversary. Actually, there is the SPR, which will be full soon.

Collateral damage to allies - well, life is tough... but that won't be Mexico or Canada. The UK is a small importer, near neutral with the declining North Sea.

Japan can take care of itself.

I think those are the only "Allies" that really matter.
