If he succeeds, the job is his. What he is doing is going to his reporters and actually asking real live questions. Engaging them as if they were talking to each other in the newsroom, instead of the phony "banter" we are used to hearing. He is subordinating himself to the news. It's working.

You and I read the same sources, I see.

Schieffer is a Washington guy. If you've read his books, you know, he doesn't want to live in NYC; nor does his wife. And Moonves, the CEO of the network, has some ideas about a different format for the news. Sounds pretty strange to me.

Anything, of course, however, can happen. But I think a lot of what amounts to network news is up in the air.
