I understand why the post was brought up here completely - that context is a playground game some folks play. I have most of them on Ignore already and just say no when invited to join in their little pissing matches. I always suggest to other moderates that they do the same. As for the 1998 post, if it was meant as a joke it was in very bad taste. There are plenty of subtle quirks about the French you can make fun of in good humor. I wouldn't count the things you included among them. JMHO. If that post had been made today with those words, I would have banned the poster from the thread. Fortunately I haven't come across that kind of vitriol lately here, in humor or in earnest. I don't read the threads where it's commonplace. Hopefully we can all keep it that way.
