re machiavelli............now there is a fellow with bad press."The Prince"was an enlightened guide for sucessful government and successfull conquest ......that rulers just wanted to rule by devine right rather than by reason is what lead them to call Machiavelli devious and underhanded. The Prince is a short and easy read...i recommend it to all.

Kastel,
Well said:

Republican, Democrat, Liberal, conservative... doesn't matter... It's not about good or bad.. Here is a Stratfor piece I agree with right up to the and including the conclusion...
So I guess I do think it was about oil... but like Stratfor says ... Some call it cold, Machiavellian, even malign. Stratfor has a simpler term: geopolitics.

Besides the serious and highly predictable deleterious effects of personal political belief on investment performance, this is another reason I avoid political debates in equity or economic considerations. Political beliefs, no matter how sincere, are ALWAYS trumped by the realities of geopolitics, demographics and the simple witness of history.
