We live within about 25 feet of a couple of guys who are a really nice gay couple, and maybe I ought to ask them how they feel about the lipstick.

In the other direction, next house, is a lesbian couple. Should we have them all to dinner at the same time? I can just imagine my mother doing that and then accidentally doing something like seating everyone at the table and saying brightly, "Boy, girl, boy, girl . . . oh, no, I mean . . . uh."

I really like our neigborhood a lot. Across the back fence is a Japanese sculptor who has had a long succession of live-in female companions, some of whom have been as young as about 25 or as old as sixty, and some who have weighed as little as maybe 100 pounds or as much as 200 pounds.

Two doors down is a guy who knocked out one of my front teeth over fifty years ago and over 500 miles from here. I like his wife a lot; she is as sweet as his mother was. Kitty-corner across the street is a woman who got herself artificially inseminated and produced a perfectly lovely and brilliant and sweet daughter who is a lot smarter than her mother. The mother has a Ph. D. in German from the University of Wisconsin but cannot hold a job. I think I know why. We left some goldfish with her once and she managed to kill them in two weeks by overfeeding.
