he echoes the Times comment

I see I will have to start fisking Juan's comments now. He is ripped apart on a regular basis by the bloggers. His favorite bit employs the "I'm an expert and you are not!" approach.

This one is a typical laundry list of Iraqi problems. It's an echo of the Times of course, they specialize in carping.

Yes John, we also read Prof Juan Cole. Whatever his background expertise, Prof Cole's desire to denigrate anything to do with the Bush administration and its supporters has led him to publish the following pearls of wisdom:

insinuating that the authors of Iraq the Model blog must be CIA plants because they support the American efforts in Iraq and someone named "CIAtech" registered their blog (it actually stands for 'Complex Internet Applications' and the same guy has registered multiple Iraqi bloggers of dffering opinions);

repeating Saddamite propaganda that the 1920 Mesopotamian Revolt began in Fallujah instead of the Shiite South as historians agree;

getting his back up and going on about his "secret sources", which he declined to footnote, when challenged on this statement by Mohammed & Omar Fadhil of Iraq the Model blog;

and declaring that the Jan 30th Iraqi elections were "less democratic" than the 1997 Iranian elections, in which all the positions of ultimate power remained in the hands of unelected mullahs.

Color me unimpressed.

I consider the best source for news/analysis on Iraq is Juan Cole. Generally better than the NYTimes

Whew!

Well I would have to expected to agree that just about anyone is better than the NYT, but I forgot about Cole. You must love Maureen Dowd.

Gimme that beer back.
