Long before WallStreetCity, a unit of Houston's Telescan, was merged into INVESTools, and more recently ZiaSun Technologies, Inc., emerging as INVESTools, Inc. (INVS), it was stand-alone one of the most useful sites available to the general public on the web. Telescan's chairman, William D. Savoy, who also serves as Vice President of Paul Allen's Vulcan Ventures, remains as chairman, and Lee Barba, who ran Telescan, remains as CEO of the combined companies.

First thing you get when you click on the site is a handy-dandy customizable old-timey stock ticker you can overlay onto your website during the trading day. You can personalize it with your own symbols, and you can click on a scrolling symbol for a chart, or grab a snapshot of any symbol at any time directly from the panel. You can also set up your own porfolio and access it directly from the scrolling panel. Cool.

We hadn't used the site in several months (guiltily admitted) since we started using our own partnered E-Gate (free trial link above) but our user name and password got us right to where we left off, brutally reminding us of some long-ago holdings (in "promising" companies "not" covered by Investrend, of course) that went South. Almost enough to turn this into a "bad" review. Or to remind us how valuable professional third-party research would have been on those companies!

Chartists will have all the tools they need a click or two away ... there are analyst ratings, stocks, options, funds, a group of recommended online brokers where you can "trade now," rankings, portfolio alerts, breakout signals, the whole ball of wax, including real-time quotes free to registered users.

What we like best about the "real time quotes snapshot," however, is it's got everything right there. 1 day, 10 day, 1 year and 10(!) year chart, last quote, high, low, open, change, volume, bid, ask, size, 52 week high, 52 week low, % change, market cap, price/sales, EPS and P/E ratio, extended hours trading info (!), PLUS breakout alerts, comparable securities, ALL THE NEWS (unlike Yahoo!), and MORE, like the WHOLE array of "Historical Quotes," listed options, company news, company info, analyst reports, insider trading and industry groups, all a click away. And if you want more you can purchase it ... real-time charts, whatever.

WallStreetCity is truly the non-professional trader's paradise on the web, and easily the best little financial site in Texas, if not the world (is there a difference?). If you find a better site, let us know.
