<friend with three cellular phones just gave up on the CDMA one, because 'it is not useful'>

Jay, Hong Kong's was the first CDMA network, launched in December 1995. It was not a well-designed system and never got going properly. Motorola messed up. Korea's networks in April 1996 were the first successful commercial networks and they have never looked back and lead the world in cyberphone technology.

Pretty soon, he will be using CDMA again, because all roads lead to CDMA for high quality, fast and economical cyberspace on the hoof.

Reflect on the meaning of that second graph and you will understand. cdg.org The first graph isn't all bad either, though it's just part of the story.

Hong Kong will no doubt be back on stream in a big way when the 3G services are tuned up, on-stream and competing properly. It looks as though there is a good start = 3g.co.uk Maybe your friend should trade in his old clunker and get with the programme in the new technology.

If he gets a PocketPC compatible device, he can download Skype and enjoy the most modern communications.
