Someone is probably going to crucify me or saying these things, but my most recent trips to France have left me with the following impressions:

1. American women are, on the whole, more beautiful than French women.

2. American cooking (good American cooking) is now equal to average French cooking. Actually, for the same price, you can eat better in the United States now than in France if you know the right places to go to.

3. American wines are different from French wines, but in many instances are just as good. I still do prefer French wines, however.

4. However, the general quality of life, the total standard of living, for prosperous people in France is definitely higher than in the United States.

All this contrasts with fifty years ago when most American wine was execrable, most American food bland at best, but Americans enjoyed a standard of living otherwise that was at least double that of the French.
