There is a beautiful poem by Linda Ellis called The Dash...it says why I think genealogy is important... mindspring.com Also, I read someplace the little saying and really liked it: "I am because they were"... I know they who went before us, want their stories to get out. And on the migration...you're right about the time...not only Germany, but Ireland as well...major migrations in 1846. The Germans really started coming here about 1840 because of the uprisings, and by 1846, were in full swing. I'm stuck in 1820 as well when my main line name was born in Hesse Kassel.... I have found where, but still don't know who his parents were... Yet, anyhow. <g>
