I'd like to read about the early Presidents views on that if you have a link. The difference now as opposed to "then" is probably not that government and business are working hand in hand for profit and mutual benefit. I'd say now more than then the sophistication and sheer weight of legislation involved along with the new threats to individual freedom posed by technology in the hands of "government managers" who think government interference is better than individual liberty. Of course in those past times when someone talked about individual freedom they were really talking only about white male land owners freedom's. In that respect a lot has changed. And I agree Bush may not be sure (until he's told) what is going through his own head. He's just part of an elite mob of super rich who now control our government.
