Oh dear. That peculiar post went back to 1998, and was fairly obviously sarcastic to boot, and clarified as such near the time of posting. Maybe if you'd had the foresight to use the properly au courant phrase "cheese eating surrender monkeys" from W's prewar propaganda blitz, it would have been better. Though given the nature of SI's eternal vendettas and the people who prosecute them, I somehow doubt it.

It's nice to see that you're officially "much of the left" now, though.

French flag tribute to Pope sparks left-wing anger

PARIS, April 4 (Reuters) - As Catholics mourned the death of Pope John Paul, crazed anti-God French leftwingers and a major communist teaching union criticised the government on Monday for ordering flags on public buildings to be lowered in a sign of respect.

Socialist senator Jean-Luc Melenchon and Yves Contassot, a senior Green party member on the Paris City Council, said the government had abused its powers in ordering the official tribute to the Pope, who died on Saturday.
