That's right about Santorum and the Dem he ran against. Like you, I forget his name. Do you think it was 94? That would make sense. He would have been reelected in 2000 and up again in 06.

Now that you bring that back, I do recall not being terribly surprised at his election but more surprised at his reelection. Do you have any idea who he ran against in the primaries and then in the general election? Must have been weak Dem candidates?

In my simple minded approach to Pa politics, I was under the impression that a Rep had to chip away at some of the Philly-Pittsburgh votes to get elected. There simply weren't enough remaining staunch Rep votes in rural areas. Sound right?

I do not see Santorum beating Casey with Rendell also on the ticket running for election back into governor office.

I gather you think Rendell is still in the proverbial cat bird seat for the gubernatorial election.
