MSFT runs on schedule each morning at 2:00am. I run AdAware every morning as well as CounterSpy. The thing that gets me is that I can run them all two hours later and get nearly the same amount of intrusions. I wish they ran continuously and did an instant block.

I tried a paid subscription for Ad-Aware's Ad-Watch. It seemed to devour most of the ads but only after they streamed onto my screen and effectively halted my online activity at the time. If I was away from my PC, the ads that it couldn't eliminate would accumulate and nearly freeze up my system. With STOPzilla, there's not a sign of popup ads, at least on my screen. I regularly delete my temporary internet files, which I'm hoping may take care of any popup accumulation in my PC's innards.
