My brother was a machinist but never joined a union. In fact he assisted the company every time a union vote was held in his plant. But, the company coddled all its employees, until he retired he had cradle to grave security and never had to make a decision of his own. Once he retired (early) and realized he actually had to PAY for health insurance he began getting pissed off. Sadly, he is one of those who thinks the govt OWES HIM a living the rest of his life. Considering he has a PENSION, SS plus his IRA he ought to consider himself lucky. Even at 77 years of age he manages to save $1,000 a month. I continually ask him ARE YOU PLANNING ON TAKING IT WITH YOU. He has no answer, just this terrible fear he is going to lose something. jdn
