You have to understand the game the church plays. To keep everybody confused and fearful they need a scandal every once in awhile they like to call heresy. The Joan of Arc thing proved mighty profitable just in ticket sales alone, burning at the stake, original sin, communion, confession, sanctifying grace all keep people off guard thinking Holy Mother Church has some legitimate claim to be a liaison between you and God. In order to keep the ball rolling along there has to be some so called new and profound thing to wince about such as gay marriage, abortion, keeping women down on the farm etc. Right now the Church needs to roll heads but due to liberation theology that is unlikely so we have a schism take place. If Ratzinger is elected Pope this will alienate the Latino Catholics and because Rome has a legitimate claim on their property, buildings etc. and is more in line with the politics of the area their claims will have precedence and it should keep the universal sham know as the Catholic Church in business for a few more years.
