re:That's all well and good but to ignore the reality seems rather arrogant.

To assume the Church could call something a sin and then produce a guide to sinning safely is true hypocrisy.

You're assuming that all sex is outside the sanctity of marriage. In fact, you've already passed judgement. What about the innocent wives who are exposed to AIDS and the innocent babies to be born with AIDS? And why is the pill a sin? Are married people in Africa or South America not allowed to have sex without the fear of conceiving a child they can not afford?

You and the church, in your arrogance, have condemned people to die needlessly because they do not meet your expectations or understanding of moral correctness.

Classically the Catholic debate regarding condom usage is one of birth control and their view is well known. Perhaps not well accepted.

If you construct an example of a married man contracting AIDS from say a transfusion (i.e. no fault of his own) can he in fact use condoms to protect his wife and family? Would in this case the Church be in support of his choice?

I don't know the answer, but if the Church was against condom use to protect life from a known threat in a non-sinful relationship - I would say they are ignorant, not arrogant.

The Papacy is hardly ignorant. They know the 'innocent' ways like blood transfusions that transmit AIDS. They also know that most Africans can not afford the AIDS medicine that will extend their lives. So millions die needless deaths because the church chooses to pass judgement based on its own historical hypocrisy. John Paul II may have been celibate but few Popes in the past have been.
