His gerrymandering in Texas sets a dangerous precedence of abuse of power by the majority party at the state level.

He just regerrymandered. You appear to be buying into the Demolib spin. Democrats had the majority of the House seats despite the fact they drew fewer votes than Republicans. He gave Republicans the backbone to reclaim the Texas delegation. No one is surprised that partisans and the gullible are critical of DeLay for that.

I repeat that Tom DeLay is the biggest threat to our Constitution today.

You opinion is only that. Expressing your opinion as if it were fact fools only fools. IMHO the ACLU is a larger threat to our way of life than a single Congressman. Few people agree with your opinion.

As far as Communism, I'm not sure what people think Reagan did to make it collapse.

You probably claim President George W. Bush just happened to be the President who caused Democracy to break out all over. You can deny the relationship between Reagan and the collapse of the Soviet block. That does not change that that it never could have happened on Carter's or Clinton's watch. Only Reagan could have said "tear down this wall" in Berlin and had the effect that it did. When Reagan turned up the heat on Cold War military expenditures it exposed the inability of the Soviets to match the investment. The peace dividend from the collapse of the Soviets lasted over a decade.

Without Pope John Paul II and President Reagan communism would have persisted much longer. Each man drew from the strength of the other. Each amplified the moral authority of the other. I doubt that without PM Maggie Thatcher the pace of the collapse of Communism could have been met.

Was it a coincidence that during the 8 years of Clinton apologism, waffling, and irresolution the worldwide terror network gained strength every year? Terrorists saw that the US would do nothing so they got bolder, that is Psychology 101.

attempts to upset the balance of power between the branches of government.

Change is constant. It is true that the judiciary has attempted to usurp the role of the legislative branch. A little restoration of balance is in order.

<<I think you've fallen for the Republican 'activist judges' line. >>

That is the very purpose of propaganda. They are not only good at labeling people and groups, but also rally the masses against these fictitious groups. Examples:

"Liberal Media" (which is a myth)
"Activist Judges" (which is a myth)

Their own labels:

"Culture of life" - which should read "culture of lies"
"Pro life" - which should read "anti-choice"
"Faith-based" - which should read as "anti-Science"

If you reason with science, you are an un-american. They subscribe to "Scientific Unamerican" aka "Faithful American." They trash Taliban but they are American Taliban. What DeLay uttered against the judges is very similar to fundamental Islamic clerics issuing a Fatwa on "infidels"
