Excellent post by "Sporky" (34715); very well said, indeed!! I can only hope that something will happen to wake up our self-righteous Canadian urbanites like so many in our large cities and like Ralph_Emerson. I have known quite a few academics during my long scientific, but practical career, especially those with ivory-towered university research positions who have the opinion of Emerson. It takes people in real jobs that interact with real working situations to understand the realities and dangers of where the world could go with, for example, the spread of fundamentalist Islam. It take real experience to unearth real knowledge; true understanding comes only from experience and no where else. During most clashes of political ideologies there are always some who protest the reactions that are necessary to maintain and promote democracy. Such people are usually unhappy with their own life and accomplishments and take the opportunity to complain; Emerson seems one of those. jrg
