I'm not a Catholic and I don't understand exactly why celibacy is a part of the Catholic faith, but it is a commitment that has stood for a thousand years. I don't think that is going to change any time soon, no matter who the next Pope.

I have given that thought (allowing a priest to marry) and I have come to one inescapable problem. Priests ARE NOT PAID so how are they to support a family? Then if you were to allow priests to marry, it follows Nuns could marry, they too are not paid. Thus before you know it the church would be supporting all kinds of people. jdn
