Yes, I believe she had limited self awareness.

There is no use explaining what I base that on, as people will be in denial about it no matter what I say... You see, if we had to accept the fact that "we" are so horrible as a society that we allow severely mentally and or physically disabled people to starve to death, many of us just could not handle that reality.
