JF, The Republicans are giddy with their new power, and they think anything goes.

Bush did say that he earned some political capital thanks to his re-election, and that he intends to spend it.

Too bad he already spent it on Social Security. I would have preferred it if he spent it on reducing the deficit, but I guess Bush would rather be the guy who single-handedly reformed SS than the guy who "merely" balanced the budget.

Meanwhile, the AARP is showing TV commercials and spreading the myth that all SS needs is a band-aid. And people are buying the myth. No room for compromise ... and each side blames the other. Sad.
