BERLIN (AFX) - German manufacturing orders fell a seasonally adjusted 2.6 pct in February from January, according to preliminary data from the Economy and Labour Ministry

Economists, on average, had forecast a rise of 0.2 pct

The ministry revised downward the January manufacturing orders, saying they were down 3.5 pct month-on-month compared with the preliminary figure of a 3.4 pct fall announced last month

The ministry said the figures show that German industry still gets most of its impulses from outside the country. An increase in domestic consumer goods orders, up 5.3 pct month-on-month, may however indicate a gradual pick-up in domestic consumption, it said

Domestic consumer goods orders rose for a fifth consecutive month in February, the ministry said

Domestic orders fell 2.8 pct in February from January, while foreign orders declined 2.3 pct

On a two-monthly basis, orders fell a seasonally-adjusted 1.2 pct in January and February from November and December, with domestic orders down 4.0 pct and foreign orders up 1.8 pct, the ministry said
