I think he was drawing those conclusions from the much higher rate of gun ownership, but only slightly higher gun involved murder rate in Canada....I suspect that the preponderance of guns does lead to some increased shootings in relation to crimes of passion and accidents, but it would be difficult to tell based on the data presented.

A small sample size is not going to deter any economist. They could hide some assumptions in hard to get at footnotes and then project the numbers to where they want it to be. Or, they could start with the numbers they like and work backwards <gggg>.
