Likewise, Myers suggested that the monthly recruiting goals for the Army and Marine Corps that were missed earlier this year are not causing significant problems. The Army's (end of Feb) 38,000 man shortage is no problem for Myers. He is USAF. It is a helluva problem for the Army Chief and Vice Chief of Staff. And it is a helluva problem for the Reservists and National Guard Members who are being called up for second tours in Iraq. Let's not forget this. The reason the Army numbers aren't worse is that so many military members are currently serving involuntarily extended enlistments and others who are retirement eligible are being denied discharge. Let's see General Myers opine on this again after he sees the March and April numbers.
