Authority is an accepted form of evidence. Subject matter experts are routinely used in news stories, court cases and many forms of communication.

Appealing to authority as a rhetorical tool is only considered a logical fallacy if the requisite facts and logic are absent. Even then, the argument is not invalid, it's just incomplete.

What I do in any particular conversation does not negate the validity of authority as a form of evidence. The particular post to which you refer was part of a continuing discussion, where facts and logical arguments were made. As such, it was neither fallacy nor ad hominem. I will admit though that it was dismissive, out of frustration that I was not able to articulate my point of view well enough to convince her.
