I used to bike a lot myself. Still have my Vitus 979 in the closet, one of these days I'm going to take it to the bike shop and get it overhauled.

You're right about the macho element, guys feel a moral obligation to pass every woman rider they come across.

, besides the fact that most guys would rather suffer a heart attack then let a woman drop them on a ride

no kidding...

i just had that situation happen to me yesterday...

as i was starting out on my ride, there was a guy a bit of a way in front of me and as i began to get my leg speed, i realized i needed to pass him, so i pass, and the next thing i know is this jerk is less than a bike length behind me....

ok...i'm thinking he's gonna pass.....fine...

but noooooo...

we go for about a 1/10 of a mile like this...this guy "breathing down my neck"....and i'm thinking look you idiot, either pass me or back the hell off ..lol

i realized i just had to kick it up a few notches and distance myself (which i did) but i was not really sufficiently warmed up for it and just lucky i didn't aggravate a persistent injury<vbg>

as to this:

Sure enough, he stayed behind and they're now married with two kids.

i have yet to see one attractive roadie...they generally look like complete dorks (must be the area i ride<g>)

of course, also i think i have a general aversion to men in spandex

i'll take the mountain bikers, thank you very much...

:)
