The fact is that ''Caliphate'' was destroyed by Saudis/ Wahabis and absence of a central figure of Islam stems from ''self destruction,'' where Wahabis Saudis made sure to destroy the central figures of Islam in name of Puritanism. 1702 AD onwards history of Najaf and Mecca. Whereas a protestant such as Blair and Bush bow their heads in front of their pope cortege; OBL would not do it in front of Khamenei cortege, he thinks Khamenei to be a heretic.

Christain does not feel the same way about Pope, reason Pope cuts out to be friend of humanity, a ''Caliph'' like OBL is perceived to be anti-Christ.

Italy appealed to pilgrims to stay away from central Rome on Wednesday, saying it was already saturated with millions of faithful desperate to see Pope John Paul's body ahead of Friday's funeral.

Roman Catholic cardinals called a conclave starting in 12 days' time to elect a successor to the dead Pontiff as city authorities struggled to contain the ocean of people surging into Rome for one of the biggest funerals in history.

President Bush arrived in the city late on Wednesday and headed straight from the airport to St. Peter's Basilica, where John Paul is lying in state.

Security officials said they would shortly have to shut off the huge queue of ordinary people who were waiting up to 14 hours to see the Pope, and warned that any new pilgrims would not be able to reach the church.

"The city center cannot take the arrival of any more faithful," said Guido Bertolaso, head of crowd control for the funeral. "Anyone arriving tonight or tomorrow will have no possibility of following the funeral at St. Peter's."

Politics in this new globalized world has become a secondary tool for achieving results. Sporting events help cool inflamed situations; in contemporary times wars are averted through sports. Cricket diplomacy is an important tool of foreign policy in South Asia, land of 1.2 billion people. The combined aggression let out by fans in the grounds of Eden Gardens, Calcutta, has more firepower than many a big war theater in South Asia. It soothes nations in a peaceful manner; seeing their opponent being slaughtered heals a lot of old wounds. What a peaceful way to achieve satisfaction of victory over hated foes.
