Bush is the worst of the worst. He's a sociopath with zero sense of responsibility towards anyone.

McCain would definitely be better (not saying much) but I'll bet the Republicans won't choose someone the Dems find palatable. Why should they bother when they can taste 8 years of judicial appointments with no filibuster within their grasp?

The RNC is into one-party rule, not compromise. They would have to experience a huge backlash from the American public before they would even consider compromise. After all, word is that Rove is still pushing for privatization no matter what the polls say.

This is a historic opportunity (as they see it) to turn the USA into an oligarchy a la Russia. If they get their way, Iraq will turn out to be more democratic than the USA which, by that time, won't be saying much.
