Most of the old cabins I've found are beyond repair, although I've slept in them or on their porch. Some are no more than a rectangle of decomposed wood in the ground.

No iron beds. The cabins I know have a roughly bed shaped rectangle of logs, with the remains of a beargrass mattress.

I always have a peculiar feeling that the spirit of the person who built the cabin is still lingering around those places. That's what makes it so compelling for me.

Maybe I will post a poem over on the Poetry Corner that captures that feeling perfectly. It's a long poem, so it may be a while. I'll let you know.
