"and it is only Chartered going the 300mm 90nm route"

Consider that the first 65nm wafers started through Fab36 last month. In general, it takes about a year from those first wafers starts to production wafer starts. Add a quarter for the full cycle including testing and packaging, along with another quarter for the ramp and accumulation of enough product for a launch, and we are looking at Q306 for 65nm. Now given that the equipment and process for 90nm is likely already in place in Fishkill, they could probably have 90nm production wafer starts as early as next quarter, albeit late Q305. Which would give them at least 2 quarters of production at 300mm, 90nm which makes it reasonable to do. Assuming, of course, that the extra production can be sold.

If true, then why would they be also planning on significant production from Chartered in the same time frame? With Chartered presumably doing Semprons, even a slow ramp of Fab36 would allow for Fab30 being shut down by Q206. Unless they have some hope of an large increase in business from somewhere...
