Besides, parallel universes are very valid constructs debated over by the smartest brains in this particular one. This universe appears to be one in which the values for particular natural laws, like the force of gravity for one, are such that planets and life, and therefore intelligent life are possible.

It could so easily have been simply an extended mist where no lumpiness, and therefore no planets, could have been possible.
