As for baseball heroes, most kids don't pick players based on morality, they pick them based on performance and the performance they would most like to duplicate. Today's heroes are into steroids. Yesterday's heroes were into womanizing and getting drunk. Personally, I'd rather chase women and get drunk than take the needle but today's kids don't focus on that. Go Red Sox, or not.
